The Google graveyard gets a new service that has been killed, and this time it is one I have been actively using for a long time.
I am an active fan of Gmail as an OS app and a webservice, and have preferred all my emails to be served by this, so I have been using the POP support to import emails from other services, and the advantage is that they are stored in my Google One subscription storage, a few T,B it’s been working flawlessly for months.
I used a taper monkey script by Daniel Slaughter to pull them in often after all, for $5 it was worth it, and it’s worked flawlessly on multiple accounts for quite some time. The emails were provided by MXroute or NameCran,e and it just worked.
Enter the Grim Reaper
Google have now decided that come January 2026 they will be killing off Gmailify, and checking mail from other accounts using POP will no longer be supported. You can view their announcement here: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/16604719?hl=en
So it’s either switch to IMAP on Gmail apps (which doesn’t benefit from the send as functionality I use extensively) or no longer will it work for MXroute, particularly I can’t use my Google One subscription storage which means I would need a much larger plan for these email accounts
It’s hard but thankfully not to hard!
Now, as luck would have it, I have been using EM Client for a while now as a free licence, which i upgraded to a lifetime licence, which comes with NameCrane’s new email service. I have been extensively testing and using this for business emails across my portfolio and have heavily invested in several TB of storage with them and their lifetime offers.
I have been testing this on IOS and Windows Desktop, and it’s been going well, so with a few smaller purchased accounts for each type of business, one with 500gb and one with 250gb of storage for about half a dozen domains in total, I have a reliable email service and an app that seems to work for it.
Now I am not going to stand here and say this doesn’t concern me, I have used this service for so long, written client and other guides on how to use this pop retrieval service, and I’ve used it extensively for years. I am just glad that thanks to my passion for testing things and understanding new products and services, I had an option.
For client email, I tend to use 20i reseller account through Nakamhost where I have an account to offer hosting and email for most use cases for business-critical use, I have Name crane and MX route available.
BlackFriday chances?
While I don’t expect Namecrane to have a black Friday discount on emails, MXroute may, and other hosts may take the opportunity to offer their services at a discount with enough notice, you may be able to pick up a bargain.
